If you’re the kind of woman who travels a lot, you no doubt have suffered at least some inconvenience associated with air travel.  Tiny bathrooms.  Freezing cabins.  Snoring co-passengers.  The list goes on.  However, I’ve compiled a list of five items that I’ve found (through my own experience) to be invaluable on regular airplane trips.  Do you have any suggestions that didn’t make it on my list?  Leave a comment and let me know!

1.  Organized Carry-On Bag

These days you are really limited in how many bags you can bring with you.  Airlines are getting stricter by the week!  You need ONE bag that you can carry on which will act as a laptop case, purse, and still keep your paperwork, snacks and cell phone handy.  An all-in-one carry on bag is absolutely necessary for any traveling woman to maintain her sanity.  I suggest:  Mother Lode eTech Mini 21″ Wheeled Duffel ($119).  It’s lightweight, smart looking and still has plenty of room for all your stuff.

2.  Shawl

Sometimes its hot.  Sometimes it’s cold.  Sometimes there aren’t any more blankets.  A sweater requires that you be willing to bump into people to get it on and off.  The answer?  A shawl!  You can throw it over the top of you when you snooze or drape it around your shoulders when you get a chill without risking an elbow to the face of your neighbor.  My pick:  The luxurious handmade alpaca hooded capelet from Mayu ($139).  It’s pretty and feminine, but warm and cozy.

3.  iPod

Being stuck on an airplane isn’t nearly as miserable when you have the chance to catch up on all the episodes of Law & Order you’ve missed this season!  While most planes have some kind of “entertainment” available, an iPod lets you take your own movies, television shows and music with you.  So  if you’re into indie film or baroque classical music–you won’t be stuck watching mediocre movie squeals with the rest of the passengers. Get your iPod online at the Apple website ($149).

4.  Tranquil Eyes Hydrating Repair Kit

The problem with traveling is not just the discomfort you must endure during the trip, but once you reach your destination, you’re almost certainly going to be required to DO something.  Sometimes its business, sometimes pleasure–but either way you don’t necessarily feel fresh as a daisy coming off a long flight.  That’s why I love the Tranquil Eyes Hydrating Kit ($29-65).  The kit helps keep your eyes moisturized, reduces puffiness and minimizes the symptoms of jet lag.  Ahhhhh!

5.  EcoUsable Echo2 Water Bottle

Finally, I love this water bottle.  Not only is it good for the planet, but it’s the perfect traveling companion for people who want to stay hydrated no matter where they are.  It features a self-filtering system–that’s right!  The filter is RIGHT IN THE BOTTLE!  Its good for up to 12 months before it needs to be replaced and it filters out up to 99.99% of impurities, including the cooties found in water sources commonly encountered during travel.  The EcoUsable Echo2 Water Bottle ($34.99) is worth its weight in…well…water!  And as anyone who has traveled abroad can tell you–that’s definitely worth more than gold.
